Some of the residencies emphasize hands-on learning, with participants making music, learning dance moves, or honing their acting skills under the instruction of nationally-acclaimed professional performers. Other programs take the artists to venues throughout the community to reach out to disadvantaged or underserved groups who have little access to live performing arts.
The State Theatre’s artist-in-residence programs are free of charge. Many are targeted to specific audiences and are open by invitation only, though some events are open to the public.
